How to Price a Dog Daycare Pass or Membership
On this page (6 sections)
In short
Sell three kinds of prepaid daycare: a package of days (for example 10 or 20 days), a monthly unlimited plan, and, if you want, a yearly membership. Price each one from your break-even price per dog per day, never from what feels like a nice round number. Give every package an end date. Write a cancellation cut-off. Take the money before the first visit.
This guide is about selling and running prepaid daycare. For your full-day and half-day rates and how to work out your break-even price, read the dog daycare pricing guide for India first. This guide uses the same example numbers.
Pass, monthly plan or membership: which should I sell?
All three are paid before the visits. They differ in who they suit.
| Product | Who it suits | What the client gets | Risk for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Package of days (10 or 20) | Dogs that come 2 to 4 days a week | A set number of days, with an end date | Low, if every day is above break-even |
| Monthly unlimited | Dogs that come almost every weekday | Any weekday for a set period, such as 30 days | A dog that comes every day |
| Yearly membership | Your most regular clients | A large number of days, or unlimited, for a year | A large amount held for a long time |
Start with packages of days. They are easy to explain on WhatsApp and easy to track. Add a monthly plan when you have dogs that come every weekday. Add a membership only when you have clients who ask for it.
What should I charge? A worked example
Every number here is an example, not survey data. The business and figures are made up. They are the same assumptions as the pricing guide: a full day at Rs 700, and a break-even price of Rs 586 per dog per day (10 dogs a day, 22 weekdays a month).
| Product (example) | Price | Valid for | Price per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full day | Rs 700 | That day | Rs 700 |
| 10-day package (5% off) | Rs 6,650 | 3 months | Rs 665 |
| 20-day package (10% off) | Rs 12,600 | 3 months | Rs 630 |
| Monthly unlimited, weekdays | Rs 15,000 | 1 month | Rs 682 if the dog comes all 22 weekdays |
| Yearly membership, 200 days | Rs 1,20,000 | 1 year | Rs 600 |
How to check your own numbers:
- Every price per day must be above break-even. In this example, all are above Rs 586. The yearly membership is close, at Rs 600. That is why the membership discount is the deepest one you should give, not a starting point.
- Price unlimited as if the dog comes every day. In this example the floor is Rs 586 × 22 = Rs 12,892. The plan is Rs 15,000, so it is safe even if the dog never misses a day.
- Round the price, not the discount. For example, 7% off Rs 7,000 is Rs 6,510. Sell it at Rs 6,500, which is easier to say and to pay. Then check the price per day again.
The pricing guide gives "valid for 6 weeks" as an example for a 10-day pass. Here we use 3 months, because that is one of the fixed choices in petboard. Pick the period that suits your clients.
What rules should I write for validity, expiry and no-shows?
Write these rules before you sell your first package. Put them on your rate card, in your terms and on the bill.
Validity. Each package starts on a date and ends on a date. For example: "The 10-day package is valid for 3 months from the first day." The end date stops unused days from staying owed with no limit.
What happens at expiry. Choose one rule and say it plainly. For example: "Days not used by the end date are not refunded." If you want to be kind to a client who was ill, extend the end date once. Do not decide case by case without a written rule, or each client will ask.
No-shows and late cancellations. For example: "Tell us by 8 PM the night before if your dog will not come. Then the day stays in your package. If you do not tell us, the day is used." This is the same cut-off example as the pricing guide.
Who the package is for. One package covers one dog. A family with two dogs buys two packages.
What unlimited covers. For example: "Weekdays only, during opening hours. Bath, pick-up and late pick-up are extra."
Price rises. A package that is already paid keeps its old price until it ends.
How do I get paid in advance in India?
- Ask for payment before the first day. Send the price and the dates on WhatsApp, and ask the parent to pay by UPI.
- Ask the parent to pay to your own UPI ID. The money goes straight to your bank account.
- Record each payment the same day. Write the amount, the date and how they paid (UPI, cash, card or bank transfer). If you do not, you will not know who has paid at the end of the month.
- Remind clients before a package runs out, not after. Check every week who has 2 or 3 days left.
GST. Whether you add GST depends on whether you are registered for GST. If you are registered, ask your CA how to show tax on a package paid in advance. If you are not registered, do not add GST. CBIC's guide on registration (hosted by the GST Council) gives the usual threshold for suppliers of services as Rs 20 lakh in a year, and Rs 10 lakh in Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura (Registration under GST Law, checked 18 October 2026). This guide is not tax advice.
Sell the package in petboard
petboard lets you set up daycare packages, sell one to a client, and have each booking use it.
1. Set up the package. Open Settings, then Pricing & Packages, then Packages. Tap + Add pack. Pick daycare as the service, type the number of days and the price, and choose Valid for: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or no expiry. For a monthly plan, tick Unlimited and choose 1 month. An unlimited package must have a validity period.
2. Sell it to a client. Open Clients, tap the client, then Sell package. Pick the package and the pet. Type the amount the client paid you and how they paid: UPI, cash, card, bank transfer or other. If the package has a validity period, set its start date, and petboard shows the date it is valid until. Tap Record sale.
3. Book the visits. When you make a daycare booking for that dog, the booking form picks the package for you. To book regular days, such as every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, use Quick: weekly schedule.
4. Each visit uses one day. One daycare visit uses one whole day from the package. If you sell half days and full days at different prices, make 2 packages: one for half days and one for full days. If you have set up half-day and full-day options, you can choose which one a package covers. When the package runs out, more visits are charged at your normal day rate.
5. The bill shows what is left. A bill for a visit covered by a package shows the package name, how many days are used and how many are left. For example: "7 of 10 days used · 3 days left". The client sees it without asking.
Expired packages. petboard does not pick an expired package by itself. If you choose to honour one, you pick it and confirm. To give a client more time, open the pet's page and use Extend validity.
Your UPI ID on bills. Add your UPI ID in Settings. It shows on your bills and WhatsApp bill messages, so a client can pay you in one tap. petboard does not send WhatsApp messages for you. It opens WhatsApp on your phone with the message ready, and you press send.
